The job of a journalist in the United States is more than simply reporting the news. A responsible journalist knows that his or her words define the times we live in and that his job is crucial in preserving the freedoms granted to us in the Constitution. The purpose of the Society of Professional Journalists at SU is to prepare the reporters of tomorrow for the responsibilities and ethical dilemmas they will be sure to face. The existence of ethical journalists is not only possible, but is, in fact, essential for democracy to survive. Joseph
