Summer 2011 Enrollment Checklist

Required Forms

  • FAFSA (2010-11 & 2011-12)
  • SU Summer Financial Aid Application
This is required in addition to the FAFSA.  Login to MySlice and select Financial Aid Portfolio.
  • Health Form
Immunization proof and other health information is required of all new students. Please call the Health Center directly with any questions, 315-443-2666.
  • Communications Law Information Form
You must complete this by July 5 if you plan to request a waiver. Complete the form and be sure to upload the course description and syllabus. Forms cannot be considered without these attachments (unless it was a Newhouse course). We also cannot guarantee that waivers requested after July 5 will be considered.
  • Degree-Bearing Transcript
If you're completing studies elsewhere right now, we'll need a copy of a degree-bearing transcript by July 15. Remember to put in the request with your current school's registrar's office before you leave campus. You should request that the transcript be mailed directly to us at: Graduate Records Office, 330 Newhouse 2, 215 University Place, Syracuse, N.Y. 13244.
  • Master’s Program Handbook
This contains policies and procedures related to master’s degree study at Newhouse.  It also includes a copy of the curriculum you will follow.  Please review this prior to Orientation day.

Required Action

  • Activate your NetID
  • Login to SU E-mail Account
Get in the habit of checking your SU e-mail account.  It is our official means of communication with you.
  • Housing
If you haven’t made housing arrangements yet, you should do so immediately.  On-campus housing for summer only is still available.
  • Health Insurance
A health fee is mandatory for all full-time students.  The health fee is not health insurance. Syracuse University strongly recommends students carry health insurance to cover expenses not covered by the mandatory health fee, such as referrals to outside providers, emergency room care, hospitalization, prescriptions, and eye or dental care.
  • Register for Summer Classes
Step 1:  View the MySlice Student Self-Service Overview
    Step 2:  Course Selection
Courses for the summer have been predetermined.  All students in a particular program will take the same courses.  Click the link above to view the class number, course schedule and course descriptions.  In a few rare cases, a listed course may be inappropriate due to a student’s special background.  If you feel that a particular summer course requirement should be waived, please contact us at pcgrad@syr.edu before registering.

Some courses have multiple sections, so you should just select one section.  Selections are made on a first-come, first-served basis once registration begins.  If one section is already closed, try another section.  There will be enough spaces for all students.  However, in an effort to maintain even numbers in all sections, the Graduate Records Office reserves the right to alter a student’s registration.  In addition, there is always a chance that instructors and room locations will change.

Step 3:  Register Online Using MySlice
Beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1 and ending at midnight on June 15, you will be given access to register for summer.  Go to MySlice, Student Services, Enrollment, click on Enroll in a Class, select Summer 2011, enter the class number and confirm.  Repeat for your second and third course, if applicable.  If you encounter problems with the registration process, please contact our office at pcgrad@syr.edu, 315-443-4039.

    Step 4:  Payment
Summer bills will be generated on June 24 and payment in full will be due by July 15.  Your $450 advance deposit will be reflected as a credit.  If you have already applied for student loans for summer, this amount will be reflected on the bill as either applied or anticipated aid, depending on the status of the loans.  If a refund is available, you may submit a request via MySlice after all payments have been satisfied.
  • Login to Blackboard
Once you've registered, you may join the Newhouse Master's Students Community on Blackboard.  Login with your NetID, click on the Organizations tab; search for "Newhouse Master's;" in search results click on the arrows next to 87c.org, click on enroll, and enter access code "zone3."   We have posted several helpful links and documents, including the Master’s Handbook.

Search for Newhouse Master's Programs 2012 and request to join.
