ADMISSION CRITERIA

This program is designed for public relations practitioners who have at least five years of full-time professional experience in public relations or a related specialty area.

The basic admission criteria for this ISDP program are the same as, and in some instances, even more exacting than, those for applicants seeking admission to the traditional master's degree programs. Classes form once a year, in August. A maximum of 25 students are admitted each year.

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of five years full-time experience in public relations or a related field
  • Submission of scores from standardized aptitude tests (GREs or GMATs)
  • Three letters of recommendation (including one from the current employer or client)
  • A written personal essay that explains why the applicant is seeking further education and how the applicant plans to be successful as an independent learner
  • A portfolio of work samples demonstrating professional communication experience
  • An interview is optional, but encouraged whenever possible (either in person or by telephone)
