Q. Where is the CDC?
A. The CDC is located in 313 Newhouse 3 (see: main campus map). If you're entering from the Newhouse patio, turn left into Newhouse 3. Once inside, immediately turn left and make a u-turn. We're the first office on your left.
Q. I want to make an appointment. How do I do that? A. If you're a current student, you must come into the office to set up a time to talk to a career counselor. If you're an alumnus, you may set up an appointment by phone. Call (315) 443-3270, and we'll find a time that works with your schedule.
Q. I'm graduating-am I cut loose? Can I still come into the CDC or call if I have a career question? A. Congratulations on graduating! The services at the CDC are life-long, so you may always give us a call to ask questions or stop in to use any of our resources.
Q. I heard you have an alumni database. How do I use it?
A. Anyone who wants access to the Newhouse Alumni Career Advisory Network database (NACAN) must attend the Job Hunt Marathon (see our seminar schedule). Once you've done that, you can come in to use the database anytime the CDC is open. NACAN is not available online in order to protect the integrity of the database, but that doesn't mean you can't use it if you're not near campus. Fill out the NACAN Request Form and we will send you the contacts you're looking for.
Q. Do you have information about job listings?
A. Yes, we get job postings from alumni and employers in the communications industry who send us postings. As graduation approaches, you'll start to see jobs included in our CDCNews/CDCGradNews e-mail newsletters, and there are many more jobs prominently featured in our alumni e-newsletter, JobOps. If you're a current student, check in at the CDC to find out how to sign up for your undergrad or grad newsletter. Alumni can sign up online for JobOps.
Q. Do you have information on internship listings?
A. Yes. In addition to our internship seminar (see next question), we also have an internship database. There are no prerequisites to use this database; just come in any time the CDC is open and we'll show you how to use it.
Q. I need help finding a job/finding an internship/writing a cover letter/writing a résumé/practicing interviewing/with networking... what should I do? A. Good news! We have seminars, which are offered throughout each semester, to help you with those things (see our seminar schedule). Some of these seminars are also available in video format, and you can watch them on CDC computers. Stop in the office for more information.
