Housing
Military students are responsible for their own housing. Since the School is not located near a base, there are no military accommodations. Finding a place to live can be the most daunting part of coming to Syracuse for the Military Motion Media or Military Photojournalism program. Syracuse is a college town, and apartments near campus fill up quickly. When looking for an apartment to lease, remember to insure your landlord will honor a military clause, as you probably will not live in the area a full year. Military students coming with a family might find living outside the city easier (away from normal college activities, fraternity & sorority houses, etc.), while single students might prefer to live close by (short drive).
SU has an Off-Campus and Commuter Services office. Darya Rotblat is the office director. The phone number is (315) 443-5489. The user-friendly website is offcampus.syr.edu. Check it out. Darya and her staff can recommend specific living areas.
Other military members who have gone through the program are a wonderful source of information as well. Chances are you'll know someone who has come through the program and they may be happy to tell you about the area from their perspective.

Welcome Packages
After you have been selected to attend the Military Motion Media or Military Photojournalism program, a welcome package will be sent to you. It will include information on the program, the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University and the greater Syracuse area. If you have been selected for the program, please feel free to contact Nancy Austin at njaustin@syr.edu or (315) 443-4082. If you would like the chance to speak with a military student who is stationed here now, please contact Nancy and she will have another service member call you back and mentor you.
Uniforms
You will not be required to wear your uniform to class. It is highly recommended that you wear casual civilian attire to classes. Dress clothing appropriate for on-camera work or shadowing of a professional working photographer may be necessary. Bring winter clothing -- boots, coats, scarves, etc., as winter is long and snowy in Syracuse.
Uniforms will be worn in May at the program graduation. Your specific service support command may want you in your uniform at some point through the year as well. These support commands include the AF ROTC and the Marine Reserve Center.
