Broadcast and Digital Journalism
Working on-air or behind the scenes, our alumni are shaping the way we see and process news.

Our graduates are well-represented among news and sports reporters and anchors.  Newhouse broadcast and digital journalism graduates also prominently fill producing jobs.

Additionally, many work as backpack or multi-media journalists (MMJs) and web producers.

When we asked our former master's students for permission to include them on our Alumni page, a typical response was, “I learned so much…and I look forward to any opportunity to show my appreciation.”

ABOUT NEWHOUSE: One of my professors told me at the beginning of the program that the best way to learn in news is to get in your car and get lost. I've been in a lot of cars, gotten lost many times and have learned a great deal. Newhouse goes beyond textbook teaching.

ABOUT NEWHOUSE: Once I began applying for open positions, it became clear that the Newhouse name and reputation extended far beyond the east coast. I am still amazed at how fast I got hired! Within about two weeks of sending out my reel, I received a formal offer and I can truthfully say what I learned from the program helped me get the job!

ABOUT NEWHOUSE: As simple as it sounds, perhaps the most important thing I learned at Newhouse is the importance of communication.  Having the abilities to give, receive and interpret information leads to success, both as an individual and as a member of a team.  What I loved most about the program at Newhouse is how it prepares you for the real world - how to quickly adapt to changes, both planned and unexpected.

ABOUT NEWHOUSE: The biggest force that continues to drive my career today has been the confidence to succeed that the exceptional team of instructors instill in their students. Whether I was speaking with producers, anchors or reporters, my former Newhouse classmates felt armed with the confidence and tools to succeed. We didn’t just walk away with a degree; we walked away with the teachings of an experienced staff.

ABOUT NEWHOUSE: One professor -- in one of the multiple classes I had with him-- said, "Don't make art.  Make air."  Not many phrases have been as wise as this one.  Another wonderful concept: we were able to develop personal styles, and learn right and wrong practices on-the-fly.  The program is second-to-none in refining students' skills and talents.

Weijia_JiangWeijia Jiang '06

General Assignment Reporter, WJZ-TV, Baltimore, MD

Bio & Work: http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/personality/weijia-jiang/

ABOUT NEWHOUSE: When I think back to what I liked most about my time at Syracuse, it has to be how closely it mirrored my own path in “the real world." I was able to face whatever challenge was at hand. I had already been through all of it before- - at Newhouse. Though the graduate program was short, there was not a single element of working in the news industry that was left uncovered.
